Intra-University Transfers (IUT) are for current Syracuse University undergraduate students who would like to transfer into the School of Information Studies (iSchool).
Please check back soon for the Spring 2020 IUT application.
The IUT Application Process
To IUT into the iSchool, students must attend an information session, attend a one-on-one advising session, write a 1-page personal statement, and submit their application before the application deadline.
Attend an IUT Information Session
If you're thinking about applying as an IUT to the iSchool, we encourage you to attend one of our IUT Information Sessions. IUT Information sessions are held about once a month and are required as part of the application process. You will learn about our programs and have an opportunity to meet with key staff, academic advisors, and faculty.
You can find upcoming information sessions on this page or on the iSchool Events Calendar.
Meet one-on-one with an iSchool Academic Counselor
IUT Drop-in Hours
8:30 - 10:00 a.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays
114 Hinds Hall
At your drop-in appointment, iSchool Academic Counselor Shannon Marrero will give you personalized guidance. You can review your transcript, see what courses will transfer to your new major, and determine if you can still graduate on time. Bring a copy of your DegreeWorks transcript to your one-on-one advising session.
Write a personal statement
Please write a 1-page personal statement (either a PDF or Word document) describing why you are interested in being an iSchool student. Please include any relevant and meaningful projects, jobs or internships, and your engagement on or off-campus. You will be asked to upload this document in your application.
Submitting your IUT Application
You must apply before the application deadline.
We strongly suggest that you complete your IUT application after you have attended an IUT Information Session and met with an iSchool Academic Counselor. You will need to complete an information session and a one-on-one advising session to have your application considered.
Have a list of all iSchool courses you have completed, their respective grades, and your completed 1-page personal statement ready.
The IUT Admissions Process
The iSchool IUT admissions process is competitive. Meeting the minimum criteria does not guarantee you entry to the iSchool.
Students are admitted as space becomes available and are considered on the following criteria:
- Cumulative GPA
- Rigor of academic coursework taken at Syracuse University
- Personal statement
Your application and your official transcript will be reviewed by the iSchool’s IUT Review Committee after grades are posted.
Once decisions have been made, you will receive an email from our Office of Student Services and Advising containing the results of your application review. For fall IUT admission, this will happen in late June. For spring IUT admission, this will happen in early January. If admitted, you will be invited to meet with your counselor to finalize paperwork and adjust your course schedule if necessary.
