iConsult

David Dischiave, Professor of Practice at Syracuse University’s iSchool, will take iConsult from the pilot phase into a program at the iSchool that matches graduate students with entrepreneurs for one-on-one consulting services.

Trained and professional student consultants research, create, manage, and deliver business and information solutions that can help drive innovation and results in business. Graduate student consultants are selected to participate in the program based on their analytic, communication, and leadership skills. Along with their extensive academic education, the students undergo training in best practices in consulting, which covers the client-consultant relationship and consultant tools such as project management, budgeting, research and analysis and project delivery. In addition to providing professional experience, iConsult helps students make the connections between their academic coursework and real-world problems.

Associate Professor Jeffrey Stanton's newest book, Information Nation: Education and Careers in the Emerging Information Professions, discusses the barriers preventing many U.S. students from succeeding in the growing information technology market, as well as potential career paths and educational tracks available to up and coming students in the industry.

Several faculty members, including Associate Professor Lee McKnight and his Wireless Grids Corporation, have built spin-off companies from their cutting-edge research in academia.
