Project Overview
The School of Information Studies at Syracuse University designed and evaluated new master's level curriculum that is intended to educate and train a new breed of information professionals called “eScience Professionals.” The eScience professionals possess the skills to discover the information needs of scientific researchers and adapt available technology to satisfy those needs. This new professional forges links between people, information, and tools in order to manage, organize, mine, and process the immense amounts of scientific data that are continuously generated in the research process. The eScience professional is also responsible for integrating the communication, collaboration, and data management facilities that different scientific communities need to solve large scale challenges in their respective fields. The eScience professional will become a vital member of the research enterprise who works closely with researchers to identify extant tools, data sets, and other resources that can be integrated to pursue a research objective.
