Washington Connection
One of the most important influences on the information sciences is the United States Federal Government. The government’s information-related laws, regulations, policies, and programs have a significant effect on how citizens, businesses, and other government agencies use information in many aspects of daily activities. The government’s own research programs and its support of academic research in various aspects of the information sciences help to produce new technologies, management approaches, and best practices with national and global benefits.
As part of maintaining a world-class faculty and academic programs, the School of Information Studies (iSchool) at Syracuse University ensures that its degree offerings include courses that cover federal law and guidance, as well as best practices that cover the civilian, military, and intelligence communities. Additionally, the iSchool maintains a strong relationship with many federal agencies and programs, which we collectively refer to as our “Washington Connection.”
The Washington Connection is viewed as a strategically important element of the iSchool’s future plans that include continuing to educate professionals in all sectors of the federal government, as well as government contractors and consultants around the globe. From military and intelligence agencies to transportation and health and human services, iSchool graduates are excelling in the information-driven world. The iSchool maintains a number of partnerships and programs that distinguish us as a clear choice for federal employees and military personnel as well as private sector individuals who seek an inside network to many of the information industry leaders in Washington, D.C.
