Librarianship Into the Future Award

Librarianship Into the Future Award

The School of Information Studies seeks to engage with potential and existing students, alumni, and other iSchool community members in innovative ways, just as libraries in the future must reach out to their patrons in imaginative ways. We aspire to be a leader in the use of the social web, and therefore, we would like to encourage students interested in being prominent in this space to join us at Syracuse.

To do this, we have established the Librarianship into the Future Scholarship. This award will cover 50 percent of scholarship recipients’ tuition expenses toward their MSLIS degree at the Syracuse.

Librarianship into the Future Scholarship winners will be responsible for creating regular content in the social web talking about their experiences as a Syracuse student, their impressions of LIS news, interviews with alumni, or other ways of demonstrating their connection with the school. We are seeking students who are comfortable producing audio, video, blogs, Facebook pages, Tweets, or other modes of communication in the social web environment.

To apply, create a video answering the question “why are librarians necessary for the future of our communities?” This video should be a platform for your personality along with content, and should include an example related to the topic. Your video may be posted on the Internet either as a public or private video, and should be no more than five minutes in length. Post it online and send us the link using the Submit Application form below, along with any additional information we might need in order to view it.

The deadline for 2012 has passed.

Thanks to a $27 million investment from IBM, iSchool students will have access to state of the art data center equipment located right here on campus.

Team projects and group oriented class work are common in many iSchool courses. As a result, many students find themselves more engaged in course topics, while at the same time developing and fine tuning their collaboration skills which are an essential asset in modern information technology environments.
