Our Graduate Programs

The finest students from all over the world choose to enroll in our top-ranked master’s degree and Ph.D. programs. We currently have 675 graduate students studying in one of our three master’s degree programs that are offered on campus, online, or a combination of the two:
            M.S. in Information Management
M.S. in Library and Information Science

We also support a highly regarded Ph.D. program, which currently has approximately 60 students at various points in their studies.

An Interdisciplinary Learning Environment

The iSchool at Syracuse supports a “faculty of one” and does not have traditional academic departments. This culture encourages collaboration in interdisciplinary research and collegiality among the faculty members, resulting in a supportive environment conducive to cutting-edge research and quality education. The school has a diverse faculty, with its 45 full-time members holding academic degrees in communications, computer science, economics, education, information science, library science, management, political science, psychology, public administration, and telecommunications. They teach across the academic programs.

Likewise, students from all of our graduate programs take classes together. This exposes them to new perspectives and broader applications of information theory and structure. Our information management and telecommunications and network management students incorporate the service-oriented nature of the library science field, and our library and information science students graduate with the technical and management skills to be leaders of tomorrow’s libraries.

Our curriculum meets the specifications of the Association for Computing Machinery, the Association for Information Systems, and the Society for Information Management. Our library and information science program is accredited by the American Library Association.
The School of Information Studies at Syracuse University held its iOpening celebration at its new home in Hinds Hall on the Main Campus Quad. The festivities included a digital ribbon cutting of a virtual red ribbon wrapped around an image of Hinds Hall.
The performing arts culture thrives at SU with hundreds of plays, concerts, and other shows available for students to attend or participate in each year.
