Syracuse iSchool Prof. Jeff Rubin’s company creates iPhone application for SU Athletics
10/13/2009
Syracuse University Athletics contracted with SIDEARM Sports to develop one of the first collegiate athletic iPhone applications. SU Athletics realized many of their fans use an iPhone and wanted to offer them an easier way to access the latest news, schedules, scores, rosters, and photo galleries.
“The application was developed specifically for SU Athletics and will become available to other colleges and universities represented by SIDEARM Sports,” said iSchool Professor of Practice Jeff Rubin ’95, G’97, founder of SIDEARM Sports and Internet Consulting Services.
Fans can download version 1.0 of the free iPhone Application from iTunes by searching for Syracuse or SU Athletics or through the
link that will launch iTunes and bring fans straight to the iPhone application download page.
The SU Athletics iPhone application allows fans one-click access to the team schedules, so they’ll never miss a game again. Fans are also able to read and share the latest headlines from all SU sports and get to know the athletes by viewing the team rosters and scrolling through the latest photo galleries from SU Athletics.
In addition, the SU Athletics application integrates with Twitter so fans can see what SU Athletic coaches are tweeting as well as what fans from around the world are tweeting about Syracuse University athletics. Fans can join in on the conversations using Fan Buzz. The iPhone application also offers integrated support for Tweetie, Twitterific, Twitterfon, and Twittelator.
SU Athletics and SIDEARM Sports encourages all iPhone fans to download the application.
“This is version 1.0, and we hope to get more into videos and statistics with later versions,” Rubin said.
Rubin is a graduate of the B.S. in Information Management and Technology and M.S. in Telecommunications and Network Management Program at the iSchool, and is also a professor of practice, who teaches the introductory IST 195 Information Technologies and courses in the new interdisciplinary global enterprise technologies major.
