Make my computer settings LMS-Compatible

The compatibility check / browser tune-up process is a tool provided by both the School of Information Studies and from the Blackboard/WebCT, Inc. web site. It will take you through a series of steps to check if your settings are compatible with the LMS, and show you how to change the settings to become LMS - compatible. You will need to take the following steps as you use the compatibility checker:

  1. Follow the steps in the process document listed below titled, 'LMS Browser Compatibility Requirements'.

  2. Within this document, you will be asked to complete the LMS browser tune-up from the Browser Checker from the MyBlackboard page.

  3. Within the browser checker web site, you will be asked to provide the name of your operating system. The compatibility checker will tell you what it thinks you have; you need to confirm by clicking on a link.

  4. Within the browser checker web site, you will be asked to provide the name of your web browser. Again, compatibility checker will tell you what it detects, and you will need to confirm.

  5. You will then see a table listing the versions of the LMS and which web browsers are compatible with them. Your browser should be listed with Blackboard Learning Management CE (WebCT), which is what we use here at the iSchool.

  6. Scroll down from the browser compatibility table, and read all of the instructions completely. Be sure to follow all instructions about adjusting your settings for Javascript, Java, cookies, and pop-up blocking software. It is especially important that you follow all of the instructions in the section called "Disable Pop-Up Blocking for LMS," because many problems people have with the LMS tend to result from these settings being incorrect.

  7. Please be sure to follow the steps to update/download your java from the document below and not from the blackboard.com web site.   The LMS web site links to an old version of java.  Please go directly to http://www.java.com for the most up-to-date version of java.
