Spring Break in Silicon Valley (SBinSV) and Entretech NYC are designed to give students a first-hand look at the companies, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and way of life (both personal and professional) in California’s Silicon Valley or New York City. The programs are open to students from all majors, all schools & colleges, and all degrees.
Spring Break in Silicon Valley (SBinSV)
SBinSV will focus on face-to-face interactions with representatives at site visits to incubators, startup companies, and educational institutions like Stanford University. Previous SBinSV trips have visited LinkedIn, Facebook, Google, Twitter, Evernote, Shasta Ventures, Klout, eBay, and Microsoft, among others. The exact makeup of the trip visits varies from year to year, and depends on input from participating students.
In recent years Silicon Alley has emerged as a hotbed of start-up tech activity. Join us this Spring for Entretech NYC where you can immerse yourself in the NYC digital landscape for a week. We'll visit, interact and discuss with companies, alumni and investors in Manhattan- specifically we'll learn from and shadow information-based companies and entrepreneurs, like: Google NYC, FourSquare, Gilt Groupe, MLB.com, Constant Contact, Tumblr, HuffPost Live, Arkadium and more.
Spring Break in Silicon Valley and Entretech NYC are competitive programs with limited space. Students may apply to both programs, but only attend one. If applying to both, a preference must be stated in the application section of this form.
To be considered for admission, you should have at the time of application a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. In addition to GPA, we are putting a strong emphasis on your Scholarship in Action statement, to be submitted as part of this application.
Students who participate in this program are expected to not only represent themselves well, but also act as strong ambassadors for Syracuse University. In order for this opportunity to be made available to future students, current students must work to ensure that we are invited back to the companies who host us during this event.
We will make admissions decisions based on a full review of the file, including the transcript, resume, the Scholarship in Action statement, and any disciplinary records. Once admitted to the program, you must remain a student in good standing (academic and judicial) to stay eligible to participate in this program.
