National Distance Learning Week

What is NDLW?
National Distance Learning Week (NDLW) is a nationwide effort to promote distance learning and highlight excellence and growth in this dynamic mode of educational delivery. The iSchool is thrilled to be taking part in NDLW 2009, November 9-13, 2009.
Did you know that over 250 of the iSchool’s graduate students are online learners?
iSchool online learners reside in 33 different states and 5 different countries.
Over 80 iSchool courses were available online in the 2008-2009 academic year.
Each semester numerous talented instructors are able to contribute their expertise to the iSchool curriculum by teaching online, despite geographic and scheduling limitations.
Since 1993, the iSchool at Syracuse University has been offering high-quality distance education mediated by online technology. Today all of the school’s graduate degrees and certificates can be completed online with limited residency requirements. Our online programs make it possible for students across the globe to join the iSchool family. From the small-town library director residing in the Adirondack Mountains, to the active-duty military officer learning online while stationed overseas, to the executive student seeking a challenging and thought provoking academic experience with minimal disruption to their career, online learning at the iSchool connects us all.
We are proud of our online learners and instructors, and are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize their contributions to the school and to the information field!
What are we doing to celebrate NDLW?

Live Forum – Tips for Successful Online Learning
Thursday, November 12, 2009, 2 p.m. EST, online in Adobe Connect
Join us online in real-time for an interactive discussion of ideas on online learning and iSchool life away from campus. We will share tips on online group work, time management, and balancing full-time life responsibilities with part-time studies. All students and alumni are invited to attend, and attendees are encouraged to participate and contribute. This is a great opportunity for students in the online programs to interact synchronously with the iSchool family.
We will be using the University’s new web conferencing system Adobe Connect.
Facilitated by MSLIS Student Heidi Rempel, Executive Doctoral Student Alison Miller, and Kathleen Schisa, (Alumna and Director of the Web-based Information Science Education Consortium)
