National Distance Learning Week Profiles

Gregory Zink G’10 is in the final stages of earning an M.S. in Information Management and Certificate of Advance Study in Information Security Management as a distance learning student.
“The Information Management program at the iSchool has more than lived up to its reputation as being a top rated school,” Zink said. “The professors, facilities, course content, and classmates are top notch.”
As a distance student, Zink of Albany, N.Y, has only spent one or two weeks on the SU campus. Over the past two summers Zink came to campus to complete shorter intensive courses through the iSchool’s Regnier Summer Institute, and he spent a weekend residency at SU for a capstone class he took in fall 2009.
“Being on campus, even for short periods of time, is something that I highly recommend,” Zink said. “It enhances the distance learning experience and promotes a sense of belonging within the iSchool and the greater SU community.”
In addition to taking two to three classes each semester, Zink works full time as an IT director at NYS Higher Education Services Corporation. Zink said the work load has been pretty aggressive, but being driven and having good time management skills have allowed him to do well in school and at work, while maintaining a healthily balance with his home life.
Zink, who has recommended the program to two working professionals, is very passionate about the education he has received from the iSchool. He said the courses have helped him to further his career goals and take on additional responsibilities at work. Zink’s future career goal is to become a chief information officer or a chief security information officer.
“Whether you are pursuing an advanced degree in Library and Information Studies, Telecommunications and Network Management, or Information Management, the iSchool at Syracuse University will give you the foundation you need to be a lifelong learner and excel in any career,” Zink said.
