iSchool LMS Information

Many courses in the School of Information Studies use a web-based teaching and learning environment called LMS (formerly WebCT). Each semester, the number of courses using LMS increases.

LMS is an instructional resource tool used in the online environment to:

  • deliver distance learning courses
  • provide an integrated environment for faculty and student communications outside of class using e-mail, course-specific bulletin boards, and synchronous chat sessions
  • provide an integrated environment for the distribution of course materials such as the syllabus, supplemental readings, self-paced examinations and skills exercises, and the online posting of shared student assignments
  • privately distribute student grades and grade statistics
  • provide private discussion forums for group-based assignments and exercises

Students can access their LMS courses at the following url: http://ischool.syr.edu/learn/

If you have any questions or need additional information about LMS, please contact Peggy Brown, director of instructional design, at ilms@syr.edu.

Each fall coinciding with the University’s celebration of Homecoming, the iSchool hosts a fair for students to share their research posters with each other and with alumni who are visiting campus.
The iBand, made up of three deans and a program director in the school, are often called upon to jam out at iSchool functions, proving just how hip this school is!
