Michael Bartoletti
B.S. in Information Management and Technology ‘93
Albany, New York

I completed my Bachelor's degree in Information Management and technology in the School of Information Studies in 1993. Though the program was still very new, I learned a lot about management and technology from the user perspective. The faculty at the time had real first hand experience in the technology and information management fields through their research and previous careers and this really put the teaching into perspective. After graduation, I spent five years in technology working in the healthcare and financial services arenas for such leading firms as Keane, Inc. and General Electric.

I joined the Research Foundation of SUNY in 1998 as Project Technical Leader for the Oracle Application System Implementation Strategy (OASIS) project. Since then, I have held positions of increasing responsibility within the organization including Associate Director and Director in the Office of Information Services. Recently I was appointed Assistant Vice President for Information Services. I am responsible for all applications development activities including identifying and implementing technology solutions that support business growth and expanded services. The faculty at IST taught me to balance the personal side of information management and technology with the "techy" side - both are critical to succeed. You can learn how to program C++ but if you cannot talk to somebody about what they want you to program or what they are thinking, you will not succeed.
