Thomas Neff MS
Information Management ‘09

I decided to pursue a degree Information Management at Syracuse when I met a member of the Syracuse faculty at an event hosted at Department of Defense’s Information Resource Management College (IRMC) on Ft. McNair, in Washington DC. I certainly did not know that a short meeting would lead me to completing a graduate program and pondering further study through the new Doctoral program. Along the way, I have met and worked with some fantastic faculty and fellow students and do not want to lose that connection because I have graduated.

I graduated with my MS in Information Management in May 2009 after starting the program in the summer of 2006. Almost all of my course work was completed via Distance Learning (DL), except for a single course taken at Syracuse’s Greenberg House in Washington DC. My program was part of the Executive MS Information Management program for working professionals with experience in the information management field. My coursework at Syracuse started after completing my federal CIO certificate program at IRMC and my program was funded by the National Security Agency’s Information Assurance Scholarship Program (IASP).

I have been working in information technology system development for the US Army since 1999. After completing a 20-year career in the military in 2005, I have been working as a Deputy Product Manager of an Army logistics program at Ft. Belvoir, VA. For any current or prospective Syracuse students in the DC area, the Greenberg House represents a great opportunity to mix DL and resident courses.

Syracuse has been a great experience and I look forward to continuing my relationship with the school in the future by keeping in touch with alumni, current, and prospective students. I feel honored to be given the opportunity to be a part of the iSchool alumni class leader program so I can share my experiences with others.
