James Benninger
BS in Information Management and Technology ‘10
Syracuse, NY.
As a high-school senior, I considered many different colleges to attend. But as soon as I stepped foot in the iSchool, I knew it was the right place for me. The smaller community feel within the larger campus was exactly what I was looking for.
As an undergraduate in the iSchool, I majored in information management and technology, and I took a minor in Global Enterprise Technology. I also participated in a seven month long internship with JPMorgan Chase in Columbus, Ohio, where I was placed in the Mainframe Network Tower. I found that the technology side of my major had done a great job preparing me for the job. I also found that the management curriculum and coursework at the iSchool really prepared me for work in a professional environment. In each of the courses I took, the professors were always great. The industry experience that all of the professors were able to bring to the classroom really enhanced the learning experience. Giving me the ability to have practical and real-world work in the classroom was what made my education so valuable.
I enjoyed my time as an undergrad so much that I have decided to continue my studies in the iSchool as a graduate student in the Information Management program. The experiences and opportunities that the iSchool has provided me with are unmatched anywhere else. I definitely made the right decision when I chose to attend the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University.
I look forward to hearing from and offering advice to any alumni, current, or prospective students. Please feel free to e-mail me at
