Atreyee Poddar
Alumni Class Leader
M.S. in Information Management ‘08

Atryee PoddarWhen I decided to pursue my Master’s in a country alien to me, little did I know that this decision would radically change my life. After completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Engineering in India and having worked for approximately a year after that, coming to Syracuse University was one of the best things that happened to me – friends for life and a career in a great firm.

Ironically I came here to pursue my Master’s in Electrical Engineering but shifted gears right away to Information Management (IM) after attending the IM orientation, as I realized that the latter is what I wanted to further pursue a career in. The Information Management program is a mixed bag with courses related to database, information security, ERP, knowledge management, project management etc. The program gave me the flexibility to build my own career path, giving me the freedom to choose courses from the Whitman (Management), Maxwell (Public Affairs) or LC Smith (Engineering) schools.

The recruiting seminars held by iSchool and the career services proved to be eye-openers for me, as they gave me an insight as to how things are different here—in terms of ethics, work culture, professionalism etc. as compared to back home. I was fortunate to get an internship with KPMG during my first semester through the career fair held in school. From then on, it has been a joy ride and there was no looking back. Having interned with KPMG for almost seven months during school, I look forward to working full-time with them in New York after graduation.

SU has helped me accomplish my dreams and I would like to help others achieve theirs. I am honored to be given the opportunity to be a part of the iSchool alumni class leader as this gives me the necessary platform to share my knowledge and experiences with others and help them in any way I can. I look forward to interacting with current students, prospective students or alumni regarding any questions or topics. Get back to me with a “Hi” at atreyeep@gmail.com
