Bijaya Khanal
M.S. Telecommunications and Network Management ‘11
Syracuse, NY

Prior to entering graduate school, I completed my Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communication from IEC College of Engineering & Technology, Noida. In 2005 I took a job in system support organization (SSO) division of HCL Infosystems, India, where I gained hands-on skills in enterprise hardware and network infrastructure management. After several years of industry exposure, I decided to pursue more advanced education in networking, and I joined the TNM program at Syracuse University's iSchool.
During my program, I spent a lot of time in the CCENT (Center for Convergence and Emerging Network Technologies) lab working for Dave Molta's broadband wireless and Carlos Villalba's security test projects, which opened doors to a wide spectrum of challenges and insights. Wireless projects at CCENT were so stimulating that one of my research papers was selected for presentation at the 9th Annual ITERA (International Telecommunications Education and Research Association) Conference in Indianapolis. I also had an opportunity to work as a team lead and intern in the security test bed at CCENT under the supervision of Prof. Villalba.
I enjoyed participating in several leadership and communication programs at SU including BLISTS (Black and Latino Information Studies Support) leadership, R.A.C.E by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Orange Dialogue by Slutzker International Center, to name a few. Currently, I am pursuing advanced Cisco certifications and aspire to achieve CCIE soon. In my free time, I love to go on trekking or play soccer.
The program and courses at iSchool are definitely challenging, but I always felt the support of the faculty and staff and I was stimulated by Syracuse University's vibrant atmosphere and culture.
