Erin Dorney
Erin DorneyMS in Library and Information Science '08CAS in Digital Libraries ‘08I have had the honor of attending Syracuse University as a graduate student for the past two years. During that time, I have earned my Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science and my Certificate of Advanced Study in Digital Libraries through the distance learning program.
The professors I have had the pleasure of studying under at Syracuse University have impacted my life in a variety of ways. In addition to teaching me valuable lessons about different aspects of the field of information, I have had opportunities to participate in research, professional development, mentorship and networking. Volunteering with the iSchool has given me ample experience at regional conferences as well as assisting potential and accepted students.
The distance learning program was a perfect fit for me due to my position at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. I was able to take my program requirements and electives online and chose to travel to Syracuse over the summer to take a few intensive residency courses. Even communicating via distance, I felt a strong bond with my professors and peers, who were logging in from all over the world. This classroom diversity contributed greatly to the varying points of views discussed on our online courses.
I have just accepted the tenure-track position of Outreach Librarian at Millersville University in Lancaster, PA where I will be heading marketing and promotion of library initiatives. I am always happy to correspond with alums, prospective Syracuse University students, and other information professionals, and can be reached at
