‘A home away from home’ – This sums up my entire experience at the iSchool.

Traveling 10,000 miles (from India to the United States) across the Atlantic to pursue my education in an unknown environment would be considered quite intimidating by some but I would not give up my experience here for anything else.

My first iSchool experience was when I enrolled for an introductory undergraduate course (IST 195) to get a better perspective of the undergraduate program at the School of Information Studies. On completing the course I felt so much at home that I immediately transferred to the undergraduate program – and it has proven to be the perfect fit for me since.

The undergraduate program provided me a strong understanding of the fundamentals in the field of information and technology. Being a transfer student from Computer Science (School of Engineering) I appreciated the balance of management and technical courses at the School of Information Studies.

The diverse set of courses offered at the iSchool exposed me to concepts in database design, systems analysis, information security, project management and systems architecture (to name a few) while giving me enough flexibility to pursue electives such as entrepreneurship and technical writing.

I also had the opportunity to work with the office of Information Technology Services at the iSchool; this allowed me to practice my in-class learning, research instructional technology solutions and provide technical support to the iSchool.

After being involved with the school inside and outside of class and building enduring relationships with faculty, staff and colleagues, my appreciation for the iSchool and the information industry continued to grow and I decided to continue with a Masters in Information Management.

The Masters program provided me with a deeper understanding of concepts in information management, information policy, technology management and strategic planning; all with a global perspective. The passionate faculty is always willing to pursue new ideas inside and outside of the classroom, encouraging innovation and challenging students to think creatively. My education at the iSchool has equipped me to work in the global economy and continue to challenge myself as I progress in my career.

During my time at the iSchool I was provided various opportunities to evolve professionally and grow as an individual and an outcome of this was a summer internship at Deloitte & Touché LLP. Now, I'm co-founder and program manager of iConsult, a new student consulting initiative at the South Side Innovation Center in Syracuse. iConsult provides information management related consulting services to local entrepreneurs and businesses.

All my success thus far is a direct attribute of the knowledge I have gained, experiences I have shared and opportunities provided to me at the iSchool. I encourage prospective students to contact me with questions and invite the iSchool family to stay in touch.
