Diego Martinez Boque
M.S. Telecommunications and Network Management ‘06
Seattle, Washington

After receiving a BS in Computer Science in Dominican Republic and working for five years in the IT and network technologies field, I decided that I wanted to get more formal education about telecommunications and networks.  As I had a strong technical background, I was especially interested in management and policy.  I found all those in the Master of Science in Telecommunications and Network Management at Syracuse University School of Information Studies (IST).

Prior to coming to IST, most of my work experience was in financial institutions, where I worked as a programmer, network support assistant, systems and network administrator and network engineer. I started working in IST as a volunteer instructor in the MCP study group at the Center for Emerging Networking Technologies (CENT) and then as a consultant in the ITELL lab. In IST, my position during my last year as a student was as ITELL Lab Manager.  Getting involved with Professor Dave Molta’s project was a true challenging experience and indeed, a great way to apply all the knowledge I was receiving from the TNM program.  My responsibilities included the management of people and technology to provide a technical learning environment to students and faculty.

My experience in IST both as an employee and a student allowed me to meet different people from different fields that are related to the IT profession.  I learned about communication, psychology, management, technology, project management and information security.

I am currently a network administrator for the National Bureau of Asian Research in Seattle, Washington.  If you have any questions about the TNM program, or would like to know more about the profiles of TNM students and how the market looks out there for IT professionals, do not hesitate to reach me at diegmartinez@hotmail.com. I will gladly help you so you can have the best experience in IST.
