Undergraduate Programs

The School of Information Studies offers an undergraduate B.S. degree in information management and technology, a program that combines technical understanding of information systems with policy, management, and human-centered service issues. The flexible curriculum enables students to develop a key set of information management and technology concepts while pursuing a wide range of interests in liberal arts courses.

To graduate with a B.S. in information management and technology, students must complete 120 credits, 40 of which must be taken in the School of Information Studies. The remaining credits may come from coursework taken at one of the eight other undergraduate colleges at SU. For more specific information about academic requirements, see the following documents:

Some students opt to complete dual majors. The School of Information Studies offers formal dual enrollment programs with the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and the Whitman School of Management.

Many students choose to study abroad, complete a minor, intern at major corporations or emerging IT businesses, or enroll in the rigorous University-wide Honors Program.

Students select at least one of five concentrations to develop expertise that will advance them in their careers:
  • Information security: Investigate such issues as the vulnerability of hardware and software to hackers or computer viruses, as well as the financial and managerial implications of protecting information.
  • Project management: Develop the managerial and technical skills to oversee a variety of information systems and to create information policies for organizations.
  • Network management: Study the development of telecommunications, wireless, and other network technologies and their effect on users.
  • Web design and management: Learn how to create and maintain web resources and sites, taking into consideration the users and organization's needs.
  • Database management: Organize information in such a way that it can be accessible whenever and wherever it is needed.

The Syracuse University Art Collections houses its nearly 45,000 objects in a temperature and humidity controlled area of Sims Hall, adjacent to the Lowe Art Gallery, but many other works, including the Sacco & Vanzetti mosaic by Ben Shahn, decorate the outdoor spaces on the campus.
The Syracuse University campus features 170 collegiate buildings and 200-acres of landscaped grounds.
