Federal Cyber Service: Scholarship for Service
The Federal Cyber Service: Scholarship for Service program is actively seeking qualified individuals to enter the rapidly growing fields of information assurance and computer security. The scholarship also wants to increase the capacity of the United States' higher education enterprise to continue to educate and graduate professionals in these fields in order to meet the needs of our increasingly technological society.
Scholarships are awarded for up to two years. Students take full-time coursework during the fall and spring semesters and work at an internship site approved by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) during the summer after their first year of study. For each year receiving the scholarship, graduates are required to give one year of paid service to a US Federal agency as designated by OPM and NSF.
The scholarship annual financing is renewable for up to two years and includes $18,960 in tuition and a $12,000 annual stipend.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must be:
- a citizen of the United States of America
- a full-time student in a masters or doctoral degree program at Syracuse University
- admitted to one of the three corresponding certificates of advanced study programs:
- Systems Assurance
- Information Security Management
- Information Technology, Policy, and Management
- an applicant to the scholarship program
Applicants will be evaluated by the Systems Assurance Institute (SAI) Educational Committee. Recommendations for these scholarships from the School of Information Studies will be based on a completed:
- application to a masters or doctoral program including the:
- Masters of Science in Information Management
- Masters of Science in Telecommunications and Network Management
- Masters of Science in Library and Information Science
- PhD in Information Transfer
- application to the Certificate of Advanced Study in Information Security Management
- application to the Federal Cyber Service: Scholarship for Service.
