The Washington, D.C.-based graduate program in information management (IM) is a masters of science degree which integrates federal sector studies in several concentration areas with both the theory and practice of information management.
The information management graduate program in Washington, D.C., goes far beyond a typical IT degree and is ideal for mid-career students who seek the academic rigor of a top-ranked program as well as the direct participation of faculty, industry executives, and local government practitioners. The intent of the program is to develop top executives in the field of information management. Our graduates have been reached the ranks of chief information officers and other key positions in executive management.
Applicants from the public and private sectors who have at least five years of professional experience in information management, or a related field and meet the academic requirements, qualify for admission to the program. The program typically has students enrolled from many federal agencies, military services, and local companies. This blend of professional backgrounds creates a rich atmosphere for learning based on a high-quality curriculum, experienced faculty, and a unique and outstanding exchange of experiences and ideas among the students.
An agreement with the National Defense University's (NDU) Information Resources Management College allows for acceptance of certain NDU certificate graduates into this master's degree program with advanced standing. Advanced standing gives credit ranging from nine to 15 credits toward the Master of Science in Information Management program.
Courses are taught with the working professional in mind. Most class sessions are offered on Friday afternoons from noon to 6 p.m. twice per month or held Fridays and Saturdays once per month. Class meetings are held at the Syracuse University metropolitan area location on 2301 Calvert Street in Northwest Washington, D.C. Many courses in the curriculum are also offered via distance learning.
