Earning Both the CAS in Digital Libraries and the MSLIS

Interested in gaining a competitive edge over other MSLIS graduates? With careful planning, you can earn your MSLIS degree and the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Digital Libraries concurrently. Doing both degrees together requires a total of 39 credits. Here are some tips on how to earn both degrees together:
  • Use the CAS core courses as electives for your MSLIS degree.
  • Make sure that the electives that you take qualify as electives for both the MSLIS program and the DL CAS. The DL CAS elective list is more restrictive. If you have a class that you would like to count towards the CAS elective requirements, write to certificate advisor Jian Qin to see if you will be allowed to count the course towards the certificate.
  • Carefully compare the curriculum requirements from the MSLIS degree and the CAS in Digital Libraries degree to be sure that your course plan addresses all requirements.
  • The earlier you start planning, the better! Extra courses may delay your graduation time.
